Letter from the Editor: Presidential Thoughts

If you're going to read this and be mad at us, please don't read. If you're going to read this and pull your advertising from us, definitely don't read. BUT, we get paid the big bucks
No matter who is in office, we respect the Presidency of the United States. We're told to vote and we get it. However, life experience tells us that the next contact we make at a business event, the next parent teachers school night we attend, the next family dinner to celebrate the holidays are more important in our life than who the next President is. Please don't take this as brash or arrogant, take it as YOU are more important to YOUR life than the next President is.
We're not afraid of a John McCain Presidency. We're not afraid of a Barack Obama Presidency. We are afraid of Barack Obama becoming President and being assassinated. There, we said it. We're not the only one thinking it. We, us thinkers of such a scenario are not worry warts. JFK assassinated, MLK assassinated, change makers are too often assassinated. Sad to think about? Yes. Far fetched? Unfortunately not. Obviously, the country would mourn the assassination of any President. The assassination of Barack Obama would be different. Barack Obama being on the threshold of the United States Presidency would have been impossible a mere forty years ago. Today, it is probable. Proving that in America if you work hard and think smart, no matter your background or skin color, anything is possible. That's the America I believe in.
The assassination of Barack Obama would leave a cloud of division hovering over society. Unless thwarted by the masses, the actions of one hating lunatic/fringe group would set the tone. Whether it be for ratings, agendas or taking advantage of the situation for personal gain, the headlines, talk shows and the 'throw fuel on the fire' brigade will pound us with negativity. All the rightings of wrongs that have set the stage for Barack Obama to be where he is today would seemingly evaporate. It wouldn't matter that millions upon millions have shown that skin color didn't matter when casting their votes. It wouldn't matter that many more millions, crossing skin color lines, were inspired by Barack Obama. You see, the problem is this ... whether in the classroom (bully), locker room (bad teammate) or society (bad apple), it only takes a few to ruin things for many. We need to do something about that.
Fellow citizens Barack Obama's eloquence and inspiration will make him the next President of the United States. Will his achievements live up to his words? Time will tell. While we're watching, we'll keep our fingers crossed.
Let's go America. The President will be busy, we have work to do.
Good luck Mr. President.
