A few months back, we didn't know Lee Mollendorf.She's a Long Islander, grew up in Massapequa. We met at the first Panera Bread/ West Babylon networking breakfast. Lee was a guest of our networking buddy Steve Cochrane, so we knew she was cool beans
We tried to pitch her on her husband's landscaping business. Lee was there for a different reason.
In November, 2001, Lee's 31 year old brother Mark Harris succumbed to brain cancer. Led by younger brother Brian, with the help of the Harris family and many friends, they founded the Mark R. Harris Foundation in the winter of 2001.
Since 2001, the Harris family and friends have devoted their efforts to fund raising in Mark's honor in hopes of making a difference for someone suffering from this horrible disease. With the generosity and kindness of friends they have raised over $250,000. The funds have raised been used with the goal of making a difference and putting a smile on the face of young children who are faced with the battle against cancer.
Since 2002, with the support of family, friends and community, the Mark R. Harris Foundation has been the sole sponsor for "Kids Sail" @ The South Street Seaport in Manhattan on behalf of the Children's Brain Tumor Foundation. Over one hundred children and their families to take part in a glorious boat trip around Manhattan. The children enjoy face painting, playing with clowns, dancing, breakfast, lunch and an overall beautiful day on the water.
Since 2002, with the support of family, friends and community, the Mark R. Harris Foundation has presented two graduating scholar athletes from Massapequa High School with the Mark R. Harris Memorial Scholarship.

The Long Island business world and community were out in full force at the June 3rd, 2009 Grace Peshker Memorial Fund Raiser @ Irish Times, Holbrook. Coordinated by LIConnects.com,this night wasn't about networking, it was to honor the memory of "Our Little Angel" Grace Peshkur and to bring awareness and raise funds to help fight Epidermolysis Bullosa, a devastating genetic disease that took Grace's life May 17th, 2009.
